WHERE LIFESAVING SKILLS MEET LIFELONG CONFIDENCE

Did you know that drowning is the number one cause of death for children ages 1–4 in the U.S. and remains a leading cause of death for older children and adults? Or that over half (55%) of U.S. adults have never taken a swim lesson? Swim lessons have been shown to reduce the risk of drowning by 88%, giving parents a greater peace of mind and helping children become safer in and around all kinds of water.  That’s why we’ve partnered with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), a leading organization dedicated to preventing drowning through education, advocacy, and innovation. Together, we’re working to expand water safety awareness and reduce drowning, one swim lesson at a time.

Both of my kids are always counting down to their next swim lesson because they’re so excited to get back in the pool. They’ve both come so far as swimmers in the last couple of months, and I feel like the school does a great job showing them proper swimming and water safety techniques while still making the lessons exciting and fun.

Water Safety: A Lifesaving Skill for All Ages

At SafeSplash, water safety isn’tjust a topic we cover—it’s the foundation of everything we do. Whether you’re introducing your 4-month-old to the water or learning to swim yourself, we’re dedicated to equipping families with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy the water safely.

Badge-W-1

The Importance of Water Safety

Drowning remains the leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1–4, and yet, it’s one of the most preventable tragedies. Swim lessons alone can reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88%, making them a critical tool for every family. Beyond that, developing strong swimming techniques can empower swimmers of all ages to navigate water safely and confidently.

Water Safety Essentials for Every Age

Preserver-W

Infants & Toddlers

For the littlest swimmers, supervision is key. Even small amounts of water can pose a risk, so constant attention and instilling good habits early is essential.

Stay Close: Always be within arm’s reach of your child.
Teach Permission: Start reinforcing “ask before entering” behaviors in every lesson.
Use Life Jackets: Choose Coast Guard-approved life jackets for open water adventures.

Young swimmers benefit most from consistent lessons and vigilant supervision.

Assign a Water Watcher: Designate an undistracted adult to monitor swimmers.

Reinforce Water Rules: Review “ask before entering” and “reach or throw, never go” techniques regularly.

Take Swim Lessons: Build skills like floating, breathing control, and self-rescue.

Preserver-W

Teens

While older kids may seem independent, they still need guidance and preparation for water safety.

Always Swim with a Buddy: Even strong swimmers shouldn’t swim alone.
Learn CPR: Equip teens with the tools to respond in emergencies.
Avoid Risky Behavior: Discuss the dangers of alcohol and peer pressure around water.

Meet the SafeSplash Flower Mound Team

Mike Scrivner - Owner | General Manager

Hello! My wife, Monica, and I are proud to be the owners of SafeSplash Flower Mound. I grew up swimming and was a competitive All American swimmer in the DFW area and a Division 1 college swimmer. After college, I spent 25 years in the banking industry but still continued to coach kids whenever possible including my son who was a competitive swimmer as well. We have owned SafeSplash Swim Schools in the DFW area for 13+ years. I love teaching kids and adults the basic water safety survival skills with the goal of turning them into long term lap swimmers. Outside of swimming, I love to coach and watch all sports and root for my favorite college and professional teams.

Carrie Simpson - Assistant General Manager | Senior Instructor

I’ve been teaching swim lessons for 15 years with nine of those years at SafeSplash. I was given the honor to be named the SafeSplash National Instructor of the Year in 2022. I like working with kids, seeing their progress, and watching their confidence grow as they learn each new skill. My favorite stroke to teach is breaststroke! Outside of SafeSplash, I like spending time with my friends and family. My hobbies include riding horses, trivia nights, card games, gigantic puzzles, and other random things.

Kelsey Fryman - Manager | Senior Instructor

Hi, I'm Kelsey, a Manager at the Flower Mound location. I've been in the water recreationally since I was 6 months old (surfer baby!) & have enjoyed sharing my love of water with other people since 2013. Outside of lessons I'm a Disney girl and cat mom.
